Henry was born on the 28th of June 1491 and died on the 28th of January 1547.
Henry's wives
1.Catherine of Aragon;
Catherine first married Henry's older brother, Arthur, but after six months he died and so she got engaged with Henry when she was seventeen and he was twelve! They were married in 1509 (when Henry Became king). She was older and much wiser than Henry and often gave him advice on how to rule . She was a good and faithful wife for over 20 years. She had many children , but only 1 survived, Mary, who would later become Queen.
2..Anne Boleyn ;
Henry and Anne fell in love when Anne was a servant in the Queen's household in 1522, by 1526 Henry was desperately trying to get divorced from Catherine so that he could marry Anne. The head of the catholic church, the pope, wouldn't allow it, so eventually Henry broke away from the church in Rome, and declared a new Church Of England, he then granted himself a divorce. He married Anne in 1533, and later Anne gave birth to a girl, Elizabeth, who would grow up to be a strong Queen for England. Henry soon got fed up of Anne (apparently because she was really grumpy!)
so he accused her of meeting other men, so whilst Henry was playing tennis Anne had her head chopped off!

3.Jane Seymour;
Jane was from an old noble family. She was gentle and modest, and not grumpy, like Anne was said to be. She gave birth to a son in 1537, Edward, who would become king after Henry, his father. Sadly 12 days later Jane died.
It is said that Henry loved Jane the most and Henry even waited two whole years before he married again.

4. Anne of Cleves;
Henry wanted to make a 'successful' marriage this time so he sent painters all around Europe to paint any eligible wives for him. when a picture of Anne Cleves was brought to him he agreed to marrying her with out even meeting her despite the fact he said he wanted a 'successful' marriage. Anne was rude and ignored the 'fat man' (Henry) when he approached her. Henry couldn't brake his promise to marry her so he made his second divorce after six months of marriage. Henry said she looked repulsively ugly and called her a horse! 20 days later Henry made his 5th engagement.

5. Katherine Howard;
Katherine was a cousin of Anne Boleyn and was only about 16 when she came to court. no-one knows her actual birth date but she was still a teenager when she married Henry and Henry was 49!!! She was lively and pretty and kind but she was not very intelligent. But Henry thought she was perfect for him. However, she was previously, secretly engaged to two other men. When Henry found out he had both the mens' heads chopped off, followed by Katherine's in 1542. A year later Henry

6. Kathryn Parr ;
Kathryn had already been married twice and both husbands died. Plus she was already in love with Thomas Seymour (Jane Seymour's brother) but she wisely decided to obey the king. Henry was very overweight and ill by that time and Kathryn was as much a nurse as a wife. She was a kind woman and was the only wife to bring all three children up living under one roof. When Henry died in 1547, Kathryn quickly married Thomas, who sadly didn't love her as much as she loved him and both were very un happy.
And to remember each happening to each wife, we say,
Divorce, Beheaded, died.
Divorce, Beheaded, survived.

One of the many destructive things that King Henry undertook was...
the fact that he destroyed the main part Beaulieu Abbey, a place of beauty, and used it to create an ugly castle on the western Solent.
this castle is known as Hurst castle .
